Due to the persistance of the inclement weather forecast for Tuesday June 27th, 2023 - the Downriver Canoe Company Canoe Trip has been CANCELLED. Please refer to the following for the updated schedule for the remainder of the week and thank you for your patience in this matter.


Tuesday June 27th, 2023 - No early pick-ups at home sites follow the regular bus schedule

9:30-10:30 - Spheres will work on Classroom clean-up/projects for an hour 

10:30 - 11:30 - Lunch at the Sherando Park Pavillion - weather permitting

11:45 - 1:30 pm - Wall-E in Auditorium at James Wood Middle School, Winchester, VA 

1:30 - Return to SKMS - Remaining Time to be used to work on projects if needed.


Wednesday June 28th, 2023 - 

9:30 - 12:00 pm - Spheres will take their scheduled morning trips in the morning - no changes - please refer to individual sphere schedules for more details if needed.

12:00 - 2:30 pm - Strasburg Town Pool Time

2:30 pm - All buses return to SKMS

2:55 pm - Students depart on their county buses to return students home


Thursday June 29th, 2023 - Sphere Presentations, Silent Auction, and Closing Ceremony 

1 pm - Parents are invited to come see their students' projects in their child's sphere's classrooms and visit the silent auction to support a local charity hosted by Sociosphere and Globalsphere.

2 pm - Closing Ceremony in the SKMS Cafeteria. Parents will have an opportunity to view a slideshow and video of the BREGS program's activities. Students will receive their BREGS certificates from their sphere instructors and closing statements for the program.

2:45 PM - Last Call for Silent Auction

All silent auction payments will need to be cash or check made out to the charity determined by the BREGS sphere students.



Mission Statement

The Blue Ridge Environmental Studies Regional Summer Governor's School for the gifted provides its students with two weeks of stimulating and challenging learning experiences in the area of field biology and ecology planned and delivered by highly qualified instructors committed to an interdisciplinary curriculum approach. The Blue Ridge Environmental Studies program provides opportunities for intellectually gifted children to work:

* with their intellectual peers;

* on real problems in the area of environmental management;

* in an atmosphere of intellectual freedom and critical inquiry;

* at a level of intellectual expectation and depth of inquiry not generally attainable in a regular classroom

Inclement weather statement for BREGS:

During the BREGS program if the geographic area of the program has sudden severe weather or severe weather is forecast and imminent, BREGS Board members and the BREGS Director may institute an emergency closing of the program. In this instance, parents will be contacted and a message will be posted on the BREGS website.
